Five Years, 9 Million Meals: The Impact of Uninterrupted Daily Feeding

<p>5,000 people fed every day. 1,826 consecutive days of service. 9 million meals served. These numbers tell the story of Babul Keyer USA's daily feeding program – a lifeline that has never wavered since October 2019.</p><p>But behind every number is a human story. A grandmother who would otherwise eat once a day, if at all. A child who can focus in school because they start the day with a nutritious meal. A disabled individual who has one reliable source of food.</p><p>The impact extends far beyond the 5,000 direct beneficiaries. Each meal reaches an estimated 12,000 indirect beneficiaries – family members, dependents, and community members who share in the support.</p><p>"When we started in 2019, we were a small group of volunteers with a big dream," recalls Hanan Mahamud, founder and director. "We never imagined we would still be here five years later, serving more people than ever."</p><p>The program has weathered immense challenges: the COVID-19 pandemic, soaring inflation, political instability. Through it all, the meals have continued, twice daily, without interruption.</p><p>Economic analysis shows the program's ripple effects: families spend less on food and more on education, healthcare, and savings. Children attend school more regularly. Elderly individuals live with greater dignity and security.</p><p>The feeding program has also become a gateway to other services. From the daily meals, beneficiaries have been connected to eye care, housing support, vocational training, and income generation opportunities.</p><p>"The feeding program is the heart of everything we do," says Hanan. "It's where we meet people in their deepest need, and from there, we can walk with them toward a better future."</p><p>With a new feeding camp opened near Ababa Bekela Stadium, the program now reaches 7,500 direct beneficiaries daily. The impact continues to grow.</p>
